Reflections on ethical engagement and our impact on local communities and the environment will also be at the heart of this course. As we retrace the paths of conquistadors, as well as those of Indigenous peoples, as we take up the role of well-meaning intellectuals, as we become tourists studying tourism, as we strive to travel differently among many others who share these same well-intentioned aspirations, we will consider the possibilities and limits of the practice and idea of “ethical engagement” with the other.
