Upon completion of the course, students will have:
- Read a series of key texts by and about Indigenous peoples of the Andes, particularly Peru
- Learned how those texts construct specific images of Indigeneity over time
- Been introduced to a broad historical account of conquest, resistance, and survival in Peru
- Considered theoretical issues about the construction and reconstruction of identity
- Discussed the role of literacy and letrados in the constitution and negotiation of Indigeneity
- Seen material artefacts of historical and contemporary Indigeneity in Cusco and the Sacred Valley
- Experienced various modes of interaction, celebration, and consumption of Indigeneity
- Reflected on their own positions as travellers and tourists to a place of such symbolic weight
